This is a charcoal drawing of a sphere upon a table covered by drapery. it took approximately 20 minutes to create.
The charcoal is used to add shadow and lighting to the image and to give the impression of depth. The main focal point of the drawing, or point of interest, is the sphere and from this an implied line is formed from the sphere at the center of the image downwards towards the drapery. Here the charcoal has been used to create depth within the folds of the drapery to give it a more uneven and three dimensional look.
This picture has managed to capture the edges of the table underneath the drapery quite well as it has lessened the shadow around the edges causing an implied line underneath the drapery, giving the table more shape and depth.
